Zero Patents :-)

I read about patents and how it affects the inventor as well as the end user. Talking about patents, the fact came to my mind that rice (Basmati rice) was indeed patented by a company called RiceTek.
How can you take something from another country and tweak it and sell it for a higher price.
The answer, you guessed it, patents.

Well there is more to it. Patents have been made for Neem extract, turmeric and bitter gourd.
How can you patent something that is not an invention and you do not own it !

The most recent news flash talked about patents for Yoga. Yoga is not an invention but 5000 year old art which has been mastered by saints and taught to the masses to help them.

This cannot be patented.

Today it is yoga tomorrow it will be well you can't even guess what it can be.

Lets talk about ownership, invention and the right to patent.
The concept of zero originated in ancient India. It is derived from the concept of a void. The concept of void existed in Hindu Philosophy, hence the derivation of a symbol for it.
The mathematical conception of zero was also present in the spiritual form from 17 000 years back in INDIA. So if INDIA decides to patent zero, how much royalties will it get.

Given the fact that all electronic data is a series of 1's and 0's, INDIA will get 50% royalties in all software purchases. Well that's a start. Then we will go on to other forms like transactions, codes, devices and everything under the sun that contains or uses zero.

You would need a CRAY to keep track of the calculations. Did someone call CRAY already !

Please stop these insane acts. Do not claim something which does not even belong to you.
Let the centuries old tradition and treasures be that way. They are the rights for all people and are free. If one is so inclined to teaching yoga, why not do it like it has been done for over 5000 years.

The bottom line is people should use the patent rights judiciously and should not infringe upon 5000 year old traditions to make unfair profit. Please spare the INDIAN traditions and treasures.
